We are not who we are right now. Use your imagination. Think with me. When we are born, we're just like little whiteboards; everyone around us- our parents, our teachers, our siblings, our friends- then pick up their markers and write all over us. They write their opinions, their lessons, their religions, their knowledge, and their thoughts all over us, until there is no room for us to write for ourselves. From the moment we're born, we’re taught how to think. We're told what god to believe in, what is right, and what is wrong. What is beautiful, what is ugly, what our goals should be, how many friends we should have, what we should eat, how we should speak, who we should love, on and on and on and on. We are modeled like soft clay, into something we never agreed to be. We are conditioned, through positive and negative reinforcement, to be who others want us to be. I challenge you to change that. I challenge you to open your mind, your heart, and your world. The Four Agreements, written by Don Miguel Ruiz, is a book that has changed the way I look at the world around me. Through this book, I have learned how to fall in love with the parts of myself I was taught to reject my entire life. My only goal is to help others see how beautiful life can be when you refuse to conform to society’s norms. The moment you realize that the first love you need is your own, I promise you, you`ll be a hell of a lot happier. A Brief glimpse into the The Four Agreements looks like this: "Be Impeccable With Your Word - Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love." All you need is an open mind, that’s all the author asks for. Give Ruiz the chance to help you explore your own thoughts, beliefs and ways. Allow him to go into depth on these topics, and let his words guide you down a path full of peace and self-love.
We too often find sadness through doors in our hearts that were built there by people who don’t matter; but it’s your heart, not theirs. Open each door and fill each room with love, with peace, with bliss. Don’t let people’s perceptions of you hide the light that you were born to shine with. Reading, for me, has always been the very best way to learn and expand my knowledge, and I've never come across a book that has had such a positive impact on my life. Please read this book if you feel as though your heart needs healing. It is short and sweet! If you need to, you can always find it at your local Brodie Library, where I happen to be a very happy employee! It has taught me so much, and I hope it will do the same for you. Peace & Love
